This Week: Who Do You Trust?
“REMEMBER”
Every day you “trust” in many things. When you open the refrigerator, you trust it to be cold inside and that someone has put food in it for you to eat. Have you ever had to wait a while for someone to pick you up from an event? You know how your mind starts to worry…you start to wonder, will they remember to come to pick me up today? You know your parents or grandparents have always picked you up before. You know they love you and care for you, but at that moment you start to worry and your trust in them starts to get a little shaky. But eventually, they come to get you and take you home. Then you remember that you can always trust them.
Well, trusting God is the same way. Do you believe that God loves you? Do you trust that God’s love is real? But, if you have any doubt about how much God loves you, don’t worry. Just keep reading His Word and talking to other people who know God’s Love. Like all relationships, your relationship with God takes time to develop and grow. As you spend time talking to God through prayer, reading His word and experiencing how God works in your own personal life, you will come to understand how deeply God loves you and your trust in Him will grow even stronger.
Throughout the Bible, there are many examples of how God protects his people, even when situations seem hopeless. The story of Daniel shows that God is always in control. He had a special plan for Daniel. God allowed Daniel to become one of the king’s administrators. There was just one problem: Daniel followed God’s law and that sometimes went against the king’s laws. Daniel didn’t stop following God’s law though, even though he knew it would get him into trouble or even get him killed! He needed to be brave and courageous and trust that God would protect him even when things seemed terrible. Standing up for God may seem scary at times. I am sure Daniel was quite terrified as he was led off to face the lions. But we can rest assured that if we are following God’s lead, He will not leave us to face our fears alone.

WHAT IS THE BIBLE: The Story Begins
1st Through 3rd Grade
WHAT HAPPENED?
The story of Daniel is a very timely one for us. We’re living in a time when the world is not so friendly to those who believe in our God. There are people who would want us to shut our mouths about our faith. But if you have the faith to stand up to peer pressure, God will give you the strength to stand firm. Standing up for God may seem scary at times. I am sure Daniel was quite terrified as he was led off to face the lions. The lion is one of the fiercest beasts in the entire world, and it takes skill to tame him. When Daniel was thrown into a den of hungry lions, he didn't need any special lion-taming skills to stay safe. He simply trusted the power of God, the one who created lions! But we can rest assured that if we are following God’s lead, He will not leave us to face our fears alone.

The story of Daniel is a very timely one for us. We’re living in a time when the world is not so friendly to those who believe in our God. There are people who would want us to shut our mouths about our faith. You will find as you grow older that some of your classmates will challenge you to go against what you believe and make some choices that go against God’s Word. True, no one is ever likely to threaten you with being tossed into a den of lions, but peer pressure can be a very, very difficult challenge to overcome.
